DOH! - We Lost

Well, it sounds like Springfield, IL put up the good fight, but to no avail. Our capitol city was entered into the running for hosting The Simpsons Movie premiere. It was one of 14 Springfield cities across the United States that participated in the contest by submitting a 3-5 minute video demonstrating their Simpsons spirit. The videos were then voted upon.

This from IMDB:

The world premiere of The Simpsons Movie will be held in Springfield, Vermont, after the town beat out 14 other Springfields to land the honor...

...The Vermont town, which has a population of 9,300, won an online vote and will become Simpsons central on July 21.

...Springfield, Vermont received 15,367 votes, beating Springfield, Illinois, which received 14,634 votes.

That is absolute garbage; the Illinois video was so much funnier than the pile from Vermont.

Actually Movie Guy #1, I meant to ask you why this movie wasn't on your top 5 list? Especially over viewing ninety minutes of dreamy Matt Damon?

I have not really been an avid watcher of The Simpsons in quite a few years. Sure, I catch the occasional episode, but I don't find myself consistently laughing. As a result, I am not all that excited about the movie.

Gov. Blago IS Mayor Quimby. That alone should have made IL the winner. Springfield has its own power station and a donut factory. Not to mention, Shelbyville is pretty close. And when the legislature is in session, the whole friggin town is full of Homers.

Seriously, MG#2, check out the Bourne series. It is worth watching.

Hey Matt, how about no? Regardless of Matt Damon's "powerful" screen presence, I don't care for him.

Great points about Springfield though. I will always think of Quimby now when I here Blagoivich speak.

Matt,

MovieGuy #2 gets really homophobic around certain actors. It took me almost three years to finally get him to watch Fight Club and beat his fear of Brad Pitt. We should all give MG2 a pat on the back for that one - it was quite a personal accomplishment for him. Almost brought me to tears just being there.
