Happy 4th of July! Yes, today is Independence Day; a day full of obligatory family get-togethers, barbeques, parades and fireworks. Take a moment though. Ask yourself… Do you really need all that hassle? Damn right you don’t! You’re an independent American and hassle is for communists! Besides, the Shriners are freaky.
What should you do then? Well, 2 Movie Guys encourage you to exercise your independence by planting your big-fat American ass down on the sofa to watch war movies all day! And guess what? We just happen to have the perfect list of movies to watch. Our list not only entertains, but it also educates just how our country has historically fought for the independence of all our global friends. See, you’re learning, not wasting a day better spent with you family!
So, in chronological order, here are the best Independence Day war movies to watch this July 4th:
1. The Patriot – American Revolution
2. Glory – Civil War
3. All Quiet on the Western Front – World War I
4. Saving Private Ryan – World War II
5. The Manchurian Candidate – Korean War
6. Platoon – Vietnam War
7. The Hunt for Red October – Cold War
8. Three Kings – Persian Gulf War
9. Black Hawk Down – Somalia conflict
10. Independence Day – A prelude to our almost certain future war with extra-terrestrials
And make sure you thank Patrick Swayze this 4th. Because of him we all still speak English, not Russian. What...that was a fictional movie? A group of high school students didn't repell a cold war-era Russian army?
Have a happy and safe Fourth of July!

What about Joaquin Phoenix in Russkies? They definately saved us from becoming commie bastards.
I was just propositioned by one of the movie guys. He really likes "The Crying Game". Watch it and see......
Three Kings represents the Persian Gulf War, The Great Escape does not. Three Kings is the only movie I can think of that focuses on that war, besides the recenly released Jarhead which I have not seen. Are there others?
I think I'd just prefer a nice M*A*S*H marathon. And the war with aliens will only happen if the robots don't kill us all first, see I, Robot also starring Will Smith.
ok just to ask something...What's the difference between the first Gulf War and the Persian Gulf War? Is that the same thing? because I thought Three Kings was about Operation Desert Storm...or the Gulf War in the early 90's...That was a great war/buddy/heist film. I know I was just finishing middle school during that time but who can clarify?
Persian Gulf, and "Gulf War" are the same event. Persian is just a little more specific. Not to be confused with the forthcoming "Gulf of Mexico" conflict between the US and St. Martin over their delicious rum.
Thanks for being a loyal reader Maverick, we would like to have you do a "guest review" sometime, but you cant have Superman, I'm going to see it. Take one of your many female companions to see a chick flick...
